現地時間７月３０日（火）慰安婦像の除幕式が行われました。
除幕式を見に行った日本人が、公園にいた現地の女性に話しかけたところ、慰安婦像の経緯については何も知らなかったとのこと。
説明したら大変驚いて、渡した資料を家族に見せると言って持ち帰ったそうです。
関連報道では日本からも抗議が殺到したことが必ず報じられます。
現地で反対の声を挙げた日本人・日系人の方々はこれからも市民レベルで反対運動を継続していくとのことです。
今後も引き続き日本から応援していきたいと思います。

グレンデールで立ち上がった日本人を応援しましょう！
カルフォルニア州グレンデール7月9日の議会で慰安婦少女像の設置が承認されてしまいました。
これまでのニュージャージー等に出来た記念碑は、韓国系と地元議員だけで話が決まっていたのが、グレンデールでは議会公聴会に沢山の現地の日本人が駆けつけました。
慰安婦記念碑反対に声を挙げる為、日本人が結集したのは今回が初めてです。
しかし、日本人の懸命の訴えにも関わらず、議員と韓国系団体の出来レース、最初から結果は決まっていたようです。
ある議員は「日本政府の出先（総領事館）は、君たちの運動を支持していないじゃないか。」と発言しています。
慰安婦問題を外交・政治問題にはしないという、外務省、総領事館の曖昧な姿勢の結果です。
また、ある議員は日本人に対し「多くの女性を慰安婦にした。恥を知れ。」と発言。
母国の名誉の為に集まった参加者はどんなに悔しかったことでしょう。
議会は設置を承認しましたが、このまま引き下がってはいられないと、現地の日本人有志らが立ち上がっています。
慰安婦少女像の除幕式は7月30日に予定されています。
日本からの抗議のメールが大量に届いたこともあって、今、現地メディアはグレンデールに注目しています。

Historical views on Comfort Women between Japan and Korea are quite different. This issue becomes a serious political matter between the both countries. Then, how could the peace monument be “a symbol of peaceful relation for sister cities” putting aside such a problematic situation?
Many people in Japan show their anger towards the decision.
I wonder if Citizens of Glendale could truly need and wish such a problematic and uneasy monument in a restful public place.
We know that American people cherish and esteem fairness, justice, and truth. We wish that this controversial issue may not cause damage to a very important friendly relation among the countries.

I think this is natural attitude as multicutural country’s Mayor.
I think it is not too late for you to change your decision.
At least we recommend you to postpone your reveal celemony of unfair Korean monument of July 30.
This is last message to you from me as a freind of USA.
Taking this final opportunity, I would like to inoform you of Japanese frustration as following reason.
1. Unfair viewpoint
Why you blame only Japanese?
We would like to ask you not to forget Korean army’s barbaious act in Vietnamese war.
They raped and killed 300,000 Vietnamese girls and there are 30,000 half Korean and half Vietnam children in Vietnam. We call them “Lai Dai Han”. I think you know this issue very well.
And also, the population of Korea at that time was roughly 23,000,000 (in 1943). Pease let us know how to abduct 200,000 girls. (If it were USA, 2,000,000 girls)
If you want to blame Japanese comfort women system, please establish Lai Dai Han Monument next to the comfort women monument as the fairness for all ethnic in US.
2. International low viewpoint
Next, we would like to explain why your action is unfair in the sprit of the law viewpoint.
This action is serious violation of “Japan-Korea Basic Relaion treaty” in 1965. Japan and Korea agreed that we finalized all the problem in World War 2 forever and perfectly under this treaty. We paid 800 million US$ including 300 million US$ without compensation. 800 million US$ is more than double of Korean National Budget at that time. By using this money, Korea realized their miracle economic growth after WW2. (Korea used this money not for personal compensation in domestic but for their infrastructure.)
And also, we think USA action is also a violation of San-Francisco Treaty of Peace with Japan in 1951. We finalized WW2 at this timing perfectly.
If you wants to attack Japanese during WW2 issue, it means Japan also can ask applogy and compensation of Atomic Bomb in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. You killed more than 300,000 Japanese including women, girls, and chidren. I think Atomic Bomb was biggest holocaust in 20 century because this was living body test of new weapon. You also killed roughly 100,000 Japanese citizens in Tokyo by using Incendiary bombs. If you want to build Comfort women monument, why don’t you build Atomoic bomb monument next to the unfiar Korean monument?
I belive allmost all Japanese likes and respect USA. We respect your fairness and freindship. Why you want to collapse our good relationship by supporting / discounting specific ethnic? Almost all Japanese are afraid that your action will cause serious bad impact to our future relationship between US and Japan.
Please understand not only ultra-left Japanese but also ultra-right Japanese want to collapse US-Japan alliance.
I am very sorry for my rude e-mail, but please understand almost all Japanese are reluctant Korean unfair action to us with USA. I don’t think your action is good for Korean and Japanese future relationship, also.
Please don’t be unfair for specific ethnic. Please don’t judge our history by using current common sense. There were many 14 years-old girls who had to return their parents debt not only in Korea but also in Japan. We were so poor at that time.
This is current Japanese common sense. We wish you stop such unfair planning immediately.
