    Fairfax Times
    Dear Kali Schumitz
I read your article on “Comfort Woman” issue, in which you mentioned that “It is generally accepted that the Japanese Imperial Army forced women from occupied countries.” “However, many Japanese people believe that the women were prostitutes who were working in the sex trade of their own volition.”

The reason for us to believe that “ the women were prostitute” is based on a historical document kept in National Archives and Records Administration. The report No.49:Japanese Prisoners of War Interrogation on Prostitution in 1944 clearly states that “A comfort girl is nothing more than a prostitute or ‘professional camp follower’ attached to the Japanese Army for the benefit of the soldiers. The word ‘comfort girl’ is peculiar to the Japanese.”

Those who have promoted the memorial close their eyes to this documents. Will you ask them and get comments.
